Better than Mount Vernon

I enjoyed my tour of Gunston Hall Plantation better than the tour that I got at Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. George Mason had more money than Washington, so it would make sense that his home would look nicer (although I think that it is smaller). I felt that the restoration was better for Gunston Hall than for Mount Vernon, although the latter gets way more visitors per year. The tour guide was excellent; I learned a lot of good information from her. The price of admission was reasonable, and you can save $1 per person by using the online coupon. They also have special events there, such as parties with live actors and food. Check it out!
Out of the norm....

Gunston Hall is overlooked since it's further from D.C. If you live in Alexandria or in the Metro area to site see, it's worth the drive time. Their tours are wonderful and the plantation is beautiful any time of the year. Take the time to learn it's place in history and enjoy the scenic view. It's a nice change from the crowds in D.C. More for those who like a stroll in the country.
